Time-Space Rift Guide

The Time-Space Rift — Spacetime Rift in patch 1.9.4 — is the challenge mode that sits beside the five story chapters. It is not Dark Forest. It is not Endless Mode. It arrived in Major Update 1 / patch 1.9.0 with Casual, Challenge, 2-player, and a ranking system, plus a Training Ground so you can test totems without spending a whole climb. Reviews used this space to poke Nightmare. This page is the rift briefing. Story rooms stay on Dungeons and Bosses. The long 200-room climb is Endless Mode.

What 1.9.0 actually added

Steam’s 1.9.0 note is a building list wearing a new mode:

  • Time Rift Casual for easier farming.
  • Time Rift Challenge with rising difficulty and ranking.
  • 2-player rift, listed for single-player and online.
  • Ranking for solo and 2-player.
  • A Training Ground to test totem and pet combinations.
  • An Altar to extract or install talents and push basic stats.
  • A Dye Workshop for colour, which does not help you dodge.

Kapi Bee also landed here as a Capybara Store roll, with Dual Bee Pursuit Sting later restored in 1.10.1. Carrier Pigeons handed time-limited equipment vouchers. Those are town toys. The rift still asks you to read cramped rooms.

Patches that change the fight

1.9.3 changed Sacrifice Aid: after you take damage, invincibility went from all monsters to two random monsters. Guides that tell you to body-pull a full room under that relic are wrong.

1.9.4 fixed relic Cornered Beast damage bonuses, and fixed monster enhancements in Spacetime Rift increasing after you exit and re-enter. If the rift feels illegally dense, update. If an old totem guide quotes Cornered Beast numbers, throw it out. Totems and Relics keeps the named list; Patch Notes keeps the dates.

1.9.1 adjusted Cindarok’s Flame Whirl to absorb projectiles and raised Speedy’s Shield Chance from 10% to 25%. Those kits matter more in a ranked climb than in Emerald Forest. Log them on Companions.

1.9.2 enlarged the level-enhancement interface and text — the Steam Deck-facing half of “I cannot read the rift menu.” Pair it with Controls and System Requirements.

How to use the mode

Casual rift is a farm with extra rules. Challenge rift is a ranking board. Neither replaces Chapter 5. If you still need Dark Forest for the story gate, go there first: Dark Forest. If you want a two-hundred-room stamina test with two gates, that is Endless.

Test new totem stacks in the Training Ground before you spend a ranked run proving they crash. Particle storms that close the client are a hardware plus stack issue, not a ranking conspiracy. Seat a readable rider in the Team Builder.

Online 2-player rift does not merge homes. You still meet at the fight. Split-screen still wants the second battle slot. Projectile Sync, added in 1.8.0, exists because co-op lag was real. Turn it on before you blame the relic. Co-op is the mode list.

When the enhancement count looks higher than last Tuesday, patch first, then play. The 1.9.4 re-entry bug created a year of screenshots that still circulate. This wiki will not repeat those numbers. Walk into the rift you loaded after the update, not into a forum post from September 2025.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers drawn from the current 1.0 build.

Is the Time-Space Rift the same as Dark Forest?

No. Dark Forest is Chapter 5. The rift is the 1.9 challenge mode with Casual, Challenge, and ranking.

Why does the rift feel harder after I leave and return?

Patch 1.9.4 fixed enhancements stacking on re-entry. Update before you rebuild the party.

What did Sacrifice Aid change to?

After 1.9.3, taking damage grants invincibility to two random monsters, not the whole room.

Should I rank in the rift before Endless?

Only if you like boards. Endless is a 200-room climb. The rift is a ranked challenge cousin.
